#238 - And justice for all

It seems as though our great nation is going down the Big Brother path that the Bush&Co adminstration has gone. The CDN Gov't is now seeking the ability to conduct surveillance on the communications of its citizenry. They say they want it under the guise of catching organized criminals such as money launderers, gun importers and even illegal transporters of humans. But somehow I doubt it. I think this is merely a foot in the door to allow the entertainment industry unfettered access to the logs of all internet users so as to sue the shit out of us like they do with our good southern neighbours. Not to sound paranoid, but do keep in mind there is always an ulterior motive for every bill passed, things they fail to tell the public. We cannot allow this to happen. We do not want to live in 1984. Big brother is not something we need. And any power you give will corrupt those who wield it and it shall be abused. I guarantee this will be abused if it passes into law. And how long before the profiling starts? "Oh, that one there has a middle eastern name...their email and downloads must be watched." Any privacy advocate should keep an eye on this news. And remember. The cliche phrase, "If you didn't do anything wrong you have nothing to fear" is complete and utter bullshit because when rampant privacy invasion happens it will steamroll everyone, the innocent and the guilty alike. Just look in the States to the FBI watching every book taken out of libraries. If you give your privacy and freedom up for some stupid governmental cause you don't deserve it to begin with.
