#159 - Give Us A Break
It wasn't enough to downgrade the ever popular video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas to an Adults-Only rating because you needed to download a file to unlock Hot Coffee, which was an explicitly sexual minigame Rockstar/Take2 took out of the actual game. Now attorney Jack Thompson wants to pull The Sims 2 off the market aswell because you can remove the nude blur from the characters, making the game a "pedophile's paradise." But what he doesn't get is that the "nudity" underneath the blur is actually a mannequin-style body. You cannot remotely see any genitalia or even nipples on any of the characters. But he says that doesn't matter to him. He states it is even worse than the GTA:SA sex minigame. The ball started to roll with GTA and you can bet that it won't stop at Sims 2. Sad. Very sad. Obviously this psychotic attorney knew that using the word pedophilia was going to make a great news story. It's just too bad it'll make all the stupid kooks out there believe in what he has to say. Click here for the article and read the decay of sanity. As someone else pointed out, "This guy is sick. People who see pedophilia lurking in everything are projecting their own inner demons on the world around them." Good point, Mr. Ghastly. UPDATE: I looked up this Jack Thompson on Wikipedia, and this is what I found: "John B. 'Jack' Thompson is a controversial and outspoken attorney often cited in the media for his views on the effects of obscenity and violence in popular media. He often uses half truths and misinformation to persuade others to accept his views. Thompson, in 1992, was named a "top ten" censor by the American Civil Liberties Union. He is also known for insulting those who do not share his views through e-mails by calling the senders idiots as it has often been demonstrated on forums where people would post copies of replies he sent to e-mails which had been written in a very polite and justified manner."
